One-Day workshop
|

Tutor: KERRY PHIPPEN

Kerry Phippen brings her original perspective to this methods and materials workshop using ideas from your sketchbook and drawings with ink, brush and more!

Course Outline:
A studio based day discovering the beauty and infinite possibilities of using brush and ink. Students are invited to bring treasured objects from home to work with: loved toys, personal memorabilia, a child’s first pair of shoes. These will form your unique subject matter from which to explore the beauty of ink and its potential to unveil the hidden qualities of your favourite things.
|

The day will begin with observational drawings in sketchbooks and move into the use of brush and ink to create completely unique drawings on fine paper.

Materials – Please bring with you on the day:
- Current sketchbook/journal
- Your personal ‘treasures’; this could be anything from your worn and much loved teddy bear from childhood, to your great aunt’s diamante tiara. The objects can be simple or complex but should hold meaning for you – please bring a choice of 2 or 3 subjects.
- A4 watercolour sketchbook – preferably hot pressed paper and of 300gms weight.
- Black Chinese ink
- 2 or 3 watercolour brushes or Chinese brushes
- Dark watersoluble pencil (6-8B)
- A Packed lunch (beverages are provided)

About the Tutor:
Kerry Phippen often works solely from her imagination to create her lyrical and playful drawings. Ink and watersoluble pencils are her favoured medium as they allow a fluidity between the paper and the imagination. Her works are underpinned by a prolific output of drawings which are used as a both a discipline and a creative trigger.
