Sara Lee

About The Artist

Sara Lee's images are a response to the ephemeral nature of landscape and our profound relationship with it. The expanse of the landscape has no bearing to assess distance. Each is a desert of infinity where one is pulled into the nuance of surface.

Lee predominantly works with drawing and print, including pastel and woodblock in the ukiyo-e tradition. Her practice involves working from site-specific landscapes, followed by extended studio-based work.

Selected Collections Golder-Thompson Collection;Swindon Museum and Gallery Collection; Otter Gallery, Univ. of Chichester Collection, UK; Tarma Univ. Collection,Tokyo. Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, UK; Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Sara Lee has made a new print exclusively for the Rabley Editions online shop. 'Threshold' is a new woodcut, which has its focus on a distant horizon, a threshold between the viewer and what lies beyond it.
In addition three very special monoprints: New Moon, Shuttered Moon and Before Harvest, each in two versions only. These prints are made using techniques borrowed from the Japanese tradition in which water-based inks are painted onto a woodblock and handprinted onto Japanese paper. Small variations will occur.
