Prudence Ainslie's practice explores the documentation of place with the intention of re-analysing the act of seeing. The viewing experience is absorbed through process and the re-working of multiple media. By folding, layering, and abstracting she is able to create subtle illusions and construct tangible worlds that allude to the original space. There is an interrogation of the fluctuation between the reading of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional. The images are as much about the viewers 'seeing' as the artists' own.

In the print 'Descent' subtle layers of woodcut are placed over digitally printed Japanese paper, the translucency of the paper and opacity of the ink interlaced with the digital pigment creates the illusion of space and the sensibility of the two surfaces becomes indistinct.
