Kerry responds to bizarre, beautiful and emotional subjects that balance between the fear and pleasure of childhood. Sometimes dark, sometimes funny, sometimes both! She mixes and reinvents to produce distinctive and intriguing drawings which take a personal slant on the human predicament. There are bearded ladies and monumental ink dancing bears. Kerry’s work is underpinned by a prolific output of drawings. Sketchbooks are always close to hand and are full of observations and imaginative interactions. Playful ideas and imagined characters are introduced and scenarios invented.
This collection of drawings and painting began with sketches made from the collection at Edinburgh's Museum of Childhood. The toys observed there become a distorted reality when Kerry began working behind the scenes of Gifford’s circus. The toys and characters came to life, clowns, dancing bears, beautiful galloping horses all close enough to touch.
