Inspired by the dancers of the English National Ballet and the drawings made by Cooper of dancer Madison Keesler who modeled for her in the artists’ studio.

Eileen Cooper was generously invited to draw at rehearsals of Giselle, a new production of the ballet, by Akram Khan, for English National Ballet. She followed the development of the piece through to the performance at Sadlers Wells. It was a great privilege for Cooper to draw Madison Keesler, first artist at English National Ballet who modeled in the artists’ studio. These drawings, made from observation, formed the basis of the beautiful new linocuts, the Giselle Series.

We are indebted to English National Ballet and Madison for the warmth and encouragement in this creative journey.
