Alan Bond

Alan Bond paints space. When I see his paintings I think of ‘In the beginning…..'Rocks falling, divine lights, dusty, rocky landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see. But they are more science fiction than biblical. In Bond's beginning it is as if the future has already happened. The people have already passed through, the catastrophe has been and gone. This is a new ‘In the beginning…', a new vision of emptiness

It is this emptiness that allows the viewer to enter and experience a sense that they are seeing things for the first time. Still covered in dust, forms and spaces emerge out of the darkness. Soft ,powerful and totally invented.
